Alex DeWitt

-obtained his Bachelor’s at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California before going on to Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. He received his Bachelor’s of Arts as a double major in Sociology and Urban Studies. Alex went on to acquire his first Master’s in Urban Placemaking and Management and his second Master’s in City and Regional Planning.

He has interned with Houston Parks and Recreation Department, and The Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors before moving on to work for the City of Torrance. He has participated in placemaking exercises as a community facilitator on behalf of Pratt Institute for projects such as Brooklyn Bridge Park. Alex has also done extensive research for the International Nighttime Design Initiative, curating their booklist in Partnership with the Institution of Lighting Professionals.

He has international experience, completing studio assignments in Tokyo and Kyoto Japan as well as Havana, Cuba and local projects in New York before moving to Houston.

Alex is passionate about the built environment and its impacts on society as a whole. He has studied subjects involving modern conceptions of death and cemeteries, the perception of time and how that impacts a sense place, and more recently, the impact of climate change on vulnerable neighborhoods.
